Council presented with revised plans
for $330m development

31 May 2006

ABC News Online

The company behind a $330 million tourism and residential development near Yallingup says it is confident a revised design of the project will win the support of most of the community.

The Smiths Beach development proposal was sent back to the drawing board late last year, when Busselton Shire told developer Canal Rocks the design failed to meet several requirements.

Canal Rocks met the Dunsborough and Districts Progress Association late last week to present their revised design plans.

Developer Malcolm Mackay says while some community members remain concerned about the size of the development, he believes most people will recognise the advantages.

"The benefits aren't just there for the developers and the people that are going to live and holiday there," he said. "There's a lot of benefits for the broader public, too."

It is likely to be another three months before the plans are released for public comment.
