Large Trucks on Cape Naturaliste Roads - Bunkers Bay Resort

For March 2002: The Busselton Shire Council has received two applications from Giacci Brothers Pty Ltd (Giacci) for Council to recommend approval to Main Roads WA for Extra Mass Permits (EMP) using various 8 wheel rigid trucks and 5 axle trailer vehicles (pocket road trains and B-doubles) on Cape Naturaliste Road from Caves Road to Bunkers Bay Road and portion of Bunkers Bay Road.

The purpose is on one part to transport fill sand to the Bunkers Bay Resort development; and secondly to transport gravel, sand and aggregate to the Bunkers Bay Resort development and for the purpose of servicing a proposed concrete batching plant.

Giacci has requested Extra Mass Vehicle use approval to transport 45,000m3 of fill sand over the period of year. When using Extra Mass Permit vehicles, this will involve approximately 1450 return trips, over which Council can set conditions regarding road usage, signage, hours of use, etc. In the event that an Extra Mass Permit is not approved, the sand will be carted to the site in semi-trailers and will involve 2,250 return trips without Council control over times or frequency of cartage.
